Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, September 28 at 8 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high. There is a waist set. It’s forecast to build in a high-angled north-east wind swell over the next few days as Hurricane Ian moves near our marine area. It’s going to get big, but will have terrible form.

Winds are north/north-east at 20 to 25 knots.

We see winds rotate north-east at 15 to 20 knots, with gusts to 25 today. North-east winds are expected to increase to tropical storm force Thursday. Easterly winds will increase with gusts to 55 knots on Friday.

High tide is just after 10 a.m. Low tide will be at 4:20 pm. The next high tide is at 10:12 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy 5 feet at 5 seconds in a short-period north-east wind swell.  This swell is moving past our beaches.

We are now tracking Hurricane Ian. This system will be troublesome as it heads into our marine area with weather starting Wednesday. Keep an eye on it. It is forecast become unruly and move along the west coast of Florida into the Tampa Bay area. Rain and wind will into our general vicinity Thursday Friday and Saturday. We will see strong, on-shore flow. Starting north-east and rotating south to south-west by Saturday. Surf will likely build starting late today, but it’ll be choppy, drifty wind swell, not a real ground swell. There will likely be surf, just choppy, drifty and rough. Winds come more on-shore for Saturday, when once again, surf will be big and unruly. Will we see a possible clean up on Sunday? If so, it will be short lived.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will build into the region today. Tropical cyclone Ian is expected to bring impacts to the area Thursday into early this weekend. A drier and cooler air mass is expected to gradually spread across the region early next week. Refer to the latest advisory on Ian issued by the National Hurricane Center.”

Water Temperature is around 80*.

It’s 69* and cloudy. Look for a high of 72* and clouds today. For the next several days we have high surf warnings, rip current warnings, flash flood warnings and all the rest, so stay home late Thursday until Saturday.

Sunrise is at 7:10 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:08 p.m.
