Good Morning. This is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Thursday, August 17 at 8:30 a.m.
It’s not the worst day to go back to school if you are a surfer.
Waves at The Washout are ankle high with a knee high set.
Winds are west/south-west at 5 knots, and surf is clean.
Wind should remain from the west/south-west today at 10 knots, going south at 10 knots late in the day.
We have a low tide at 10:14 a.m., and high tide will at 4:43 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 ft. at 4 seconds in short period south-west wind swell.
Surf will continue to decrease over the next couple of days as high pressure continues to move into the area. We’ll see a cold front move near the coast over the weekend which could produce choppy south-westerly wind swell in the waist high range. There are three low pressure areas moving off the coast of Africa. This could bode well for our surf forecast a week out, though development of these systems will be hampered by high pressure over the Central Atlantic.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will remain in control as troughing persists inland through late this week. A cold front will approach this weekend, likely falling apart early next week as high pressure returns. Another cold front will approach during the middle of the week.”
It is 83* with sunny skies this morning. Expect partly cloudy skies today and a high of 91* with a 60% chance of rain. There is a heat advisory in effect.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunset is at 8:03 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:44 a.m.
