glassy
Good Morning. This is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Wednesday, August 16 at 8 a.m.
Waves at The Washout are ankle high and unfortunately the swell has now passed us.
Winds are west at 5 knots, and surf is glassy.
Wind should remain out of the West today before becoming SW later this afternoon and into the rest of the week.
We have a low tide at 9:11 a.m., followed by high at 2:57 p.m. The next low tide will be at 10:05 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is reading 3.5 ft. at 5 seconds in short period SSW swell.
Surf will continue to decrease over the next couple of days as high pressure continues to move into the area. We’ll see a cold front move in over the weekend which could produce some smaller ground swell. Otherwise, we’ll have to keep our eyes on the tropics to see what happens into next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will remain in control as troughing persists across the Mid-Atlantic region and inland into late week. A cold front will approach this weekend, likely falling apart early next week as high pressure returns.”
It is 82* with sunny skies this morning. Expect partly cloudy skies today and a high of 92* with a 30% chance of rain.
Sunset is at 8:03 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:44 a.m.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A front across the area will lift north this afternoon. High pressure will gradually rebuild from the Atlantic Friday through early next week. A cold front may approach the area later Monday or Tuesday.”
We have a few low pressure systems rolling around in the Atlantic, one just formed near The Bahamas overnight, and Invest 99L is a few hundred miles east/north east of the Northern Leeward Islands. The first is creating squalls and rain for the Bahamas, and should roll north into our swell window Friday into Saturday. I would not expect much swell with this, but the unsettled seas should keep small south swell rolling into our beaches averaging thigh high with bigger sets in south wind waves for Friday and Saturday. Invest 99L is a few hundred miles east/north east of the Northern Leeward Islands, and not much development is forecast, but it should be in our swell window and send longer-period ground swell in the waist to chest high range our way late Sunday, Monday into Tuesday fading some on Wednesday. Early week, we do expect some south-west winds ahead of a cold front, which is never good sign for a clean, long-period ground swell. But there are some waves in the forecast, so plan to go surf if you can.
