choppy

Time of Report: 11:30AM
Wave Forecast: shin to knee
Traffic: none, icy
Parking: plenty
Dangers: icy roads

Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, Jan. 6 at 11:30 a.m.

Folly Beach is open for business. Bridges and roads are good, just drive slowly. We are opening at 11:30 today, and will be open at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The water temperature is 42*. Don’t know if that’s a record, but it is as cold as we have seen it here in at least eight years. It won’t warm up until early next week, and then probably into the upper-40s*.

Surf at the Washout this morning is shin to knee high. It is choppy and cold in the surf zone.

Winds are NNE at 10-15 knots, and are expected to stay about the same all day.

We had a high tide at 11:20 a.m., and a low tide will be at 5:27 p.m

Edisto buoy is reading 4.9 ft. at 10 seconds in a combination of high angle north-east wind swell and medium period north-east swell.

Surf is looking pretty small and cold this morning as high-angled, north-wind swell develops off-shore. We might see some north-east wind swell develop Sunday, but the swell is super steep and most of the swell is passing us by. Then we see south-east wind swell average waist to stomach high for Monday, which is probably the best bet for a good swell angle and some warmer air temperatures.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Arctic high pressure will prevail through the weekend. The high will move into the Atlantic Monday, as a frontal system develops to the south. Another region of high pressure builds in during the middle of next week, with low pressure and its associated cold front to approach late in the week.”

It is sunny and 30* as we roll into afternoon. Look for a high of 36* and sun today. It’s still really cold.

Water temperature is down to 42*. That’s about as cold as I have seen it in these parts.

Sunset is at 5:27 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:22 a.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
