Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.
The water temperature is 42*, so put on your neoprene if you plan on surfing this mid-week swell that we think we are going to see.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high with a waist high set. It is semi-clean and closing out at the morning’s low tide. Looks like there might be a wave as the tide comes in if the winds stay off of it.
Winds are north at 8 knots, and surf is side-shore. We expect north-east winds at 10 to 15 this afternoon, and surf should get choppier as the day wears on.
We just had a low tide at daybreak, and high tide will be at 1:52 p.m., and low tide will be at 8:07 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 2.6 ft. at 10 seconds in long period south-east swell, so there is a little swell at the buoy.
Look for a few waist to stomach high waves as the tide comes in late morning, fading some at the late day low tide. Surf gets choppier as the afternoon comes around with north-east winds at 10 to 15 today. We expect building south-east wind/ground swell in the chest high range over the next several days, with winds trending east mid-week, and going south late week. There should be plenty of swell in the water, but it might not be very clean. A front approaches late Friday, and winds go south-west and surf gets side-shore and choppy for Saturday morning before getting a bit wind-blown during the day Saturday with westerly winds.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will build in from the north today and tonight, then slide into the Atlantic on Wednesday. A coastal trough will linger offshore through midweek before moving inland on Thursday. A cold front will move through the area Friday night followed by a secondary front Saturday night. Cool high pressure will return late weekend into early next week.”
It is 49 with sun this morning. Expect a high of 61* and sun with periods of clouds today.
Water temperature is down to 42*.
Sunset is at 5:30 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:22 a.m.
