Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, October 4 at 8:15 a.m.
We have a large selection of 1 mm and 2 mm neoprene jackets here at the shop. Come pick one up because it’s getting a bit chilly for these early morning sessions, and the waves should be good this week and into next.
Waves at The Pier this morning are waist to stomach high in ground-swell lines. It’s closing out at the low tide, but should get much better form as the tide moves in late morning. It was pretty darn fun yesterday, and looks potentially better today.
Winds are north-west at 5 knots, and surf is perfectly clean.
Winds should be light and variable all day, so there should be some bump and texture in the surf zone, but we have overall clean ground-swell surf today.
We have a low tide at 9:57 a.m., and a high tide will be at 4:24 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4.6 ft. at 12 seconds in long-period east/south-east ground swell. There is swell at the buoy, and should be some waves all day.
Hurricane Leslie is floating around in the Central Atlantic to our east, and is starting to move slowly north, but still sending in a nice ground swell. We see some long period swell building today, continuing and falling off a bit Friday into Saturday, but there should still be clean surf to ride for the next several days. Surf fades Sunday, but we see the possibility of a costal trough forming off-shore along a stalled frontal boundary next week, this should send up some fun, punchy south-east wind swell Tuesday and into the latter part of next week. There is also a low-pressure system in the south-west Caribbean that bears watching for development later this week as it moves north. Lots of surf in the forecast.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak backdoor cold front is expected to cross the region this weekend, then a coastal trough could develop next week. Otherwise, high pressure will prevail through the middle of next week.”
It’s 74* with sun this morning. Expect a nice day with a high of 87* and sun.
Water temperature is 82*.
Sunset is at 6:59 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:15 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
