Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, October 5 at 8:15 a.m.
We have a large selection of 1 mm and 2 mm neoprene jackets and spring suits here at the shop. Come pick one up because it’s getting a bit chilly for these early morning sessions, and the waves should be good this week and into next.
Waves at The Pier this morning are thigh-to-waist high with a stomach (rare larger) set in ground-swell lines. There is a long wait between sets, but it’s still pretty good.
It’s closing out a bit as the tide goes out. It should get better form as the tide moves in early afternoon.
Winds are west at 5 knots, and surf is clean.
Winds should be west at 10 knots until late afternoon, when wind clocks south-west at 10 knots, putting some chatter in the wave face.
We have a low tide at 11:02 a.m., and a high tide will be at 5:06 p.m.The Edisto buoy is reading 3.3 ft. at 10 seconds in long-period east/south-east ground swell. There is swell at the buoy, and should be some waves all day.
Tropical Storm Leslie is floating around in the Central Atlantic to our east, and is starting to move slowly north, but still sending in a nice ground swell. We see smaller but certainly rideable long period swell again today, continuing and falling off a bit into Saturday, but there should still be surf to ride for the next several days. We see a strong, punchy east/south-east trade-wind swell fill in Monday and build through the middle of next week, with easterly winds adding chop to waist to chest high wind swell. There is plenty of surf in the forecast, so wax up and get on it.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will generally prevail into the middle of next week while low pressure over the western Caribbean Sea moves north through the Gulf of Mexico.”
It’s 74* with sun this morning. Expect a hot day with a high of 90* and sun.
Water temperature is 82*.
Sunset is at 6:58 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:16 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
