Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, May 16 at 8:30 a.m.
Hands Across the Sand will be held Saturday at The Pier from 10 a.m. to noon. It’s an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of offshore drilling here in South Carolina. The event is free.
The ESA will be holding the Ocean Surf Shop contest at The Washout on Saturday. Sign up here at the shop, or check the SSC ESA Web site for more information.
Surf at The Washout is flat.
Winds are south/south-west at 5 to 8 knots, and surf is choppy.
Look for south winds mid-afternoon at 15 knots adding bump the surf-zone.
Low tide is at 12:33 p.m., and high tide is at 7:03 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 2 feet at 8 seconds in a high angled easterly swell.
High pressure will be in control of our weather, sitting right on top of our marine area for the next few days. This is not good for our surf forecast, and this is a typical summer weather pattern. We don’t have much surf today, and surf looks pretty small through the weekend. We could see some small, longboard-style trade-wind swell Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will be the dominant weather feature into next week.”
It’s a beautiful morning. It’s 73* with sun. Look for a prefect beach day with sun and passing clouds with a high of 81*.
Water temperature is around 77*.
Sunrise is at 6:21 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:10 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
