Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, May 17 at 8:30 a.m.
Hands Across the Sand will be held Saturday at The Pier from 10 a.m. to noon. It’s an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of offshore drilling here in South Carolina. The event is free.
The ESA will be holding the Ocean Surf Shop points contest at The Washout on Saturday. Check the SSC ESA Web site for more information.
Surf at The Washout knee-to-thigh high. It’s rideable on a high volume board.
Winds are south-west at 10 to 15 knots, and surf is choppy.
Look for south-west winds mid-afternoon at 15 to 20 knots adding more chop to the surf zone.
Tide is now going out. Low tide is at 1:22 p.m., and high tide is at 7:53 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3.6 feet at 5 seconds in a short-period south-west wind swell.
High pressure will be in control of our weather, sitting right on top of our marine area for the next few days, This is not good for our surf forecast, and this is a typical summer weather pattern. Today we see south-west wind waves with poor form averaging knee to thigh high. There might be a few small waves on the high tide Saturday morning for a long-board session, but surf looks pretty small through the weekend. We could see some small, longboard-style trade-wind swell during the early part of the work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will be the dominant weather feature into next week.”
It’s a beautiful morning. It’s 76* with sun. Look for a hot beach day with sun and passing clouds with a high of 86*.
Water temperature is around 77*.
Sunrise is at 6:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:13 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
