August 17th Washout

blown out, disorganized

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: chest +
Traffic: should be okay today
Parking: plenty
Dangers: current

Good morning, this is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, August 17 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is in the chest to head high range.

Winds are whipping from the S at 15-20 knots, and surf is mostly blown out with some big sections if you’re in the right spot.  Big current & disorganized conditions this morning.

Look for winds to remain hard out of the S all day as showers and thunderstorms make their way through over the course of the day.

We’ll have a high tide at 9:42 a.m., and a low tide at 3:42 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:09 p.m. The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.9 ft at 6 seconds in a SSW wind swell.  Wonky storm-like surf out there this morning. Chunky conditions with big drops and a few makeable sections.  Conditions should remain about the same over the course of the day, depending on what the thunderstorms do to the wind this afternoon. This wind swell drops off a bit for Sunday but we could see some residual size if the wind holds up. Surf looks small into the beginning of the work week. As of right now, there is not anything really firing up in the tropics.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak low pressure system will track northeast along the Georgia and South Carolina coast today. A stationary front will linger nearby through Sunday. Atlantic high pressure and an inland trough will then prevail through much of the week.

It’s 82* with showers at the beach. Look for a high of 83* today, with rain and thunderstorms.

Water temperature is around 86*.

Sunrise is at 6:43 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
