Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, July 4 at 8:30 a.m.
The family at Ocean Surf Shop wants to with you-and-yours a safe and happy 4th of July. Traffic is going to be brutal today, so be patient if you’re coming to the beach.
Traffic on Folly Road will be reversed up to Bowen’s Island between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. after the fireworks at 9 p.m., so keep that in mind if you are heading out here tonight.
Waves at The Washout this morning are knee to thigh high. Fun for the long-board or softie if you need to get wet.
Winds are light from the north-west, surf zone is clean.
Look for winds from the south at 10 to 15 knots with gusts to 20 by late day. We see surf get choppy and build some late afternoon.
We have a high tide at 9:48 a.m., and a low tide will be at 3:45 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:11 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 ft at 9 seconds in a medium period south-east swell and a short period south/south-west wind swell.
Not much swell at the buoy, and small surf at the beach continues. Surf looks small for your 4th of July, but we should have a slight uptick in choppy south wind swell Friday. The small wind swell continues Saturday, but should be building some from the south-west into Sunday as a font approaches from the west early next week. Not great, but maybe some bigger choppy surf late in the weekend and into the start of the work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A surface trough of low pressure will persist across the region through the weekend. A weak front is expected to approach the region early next week, then linger near the area into the middle of the week. High pressure should then shift into the area late next week.”
It’s 82* with sunshine behind a few clouds this morning. We have a hot day ahead with an expected high of 92* and a 20% chance for an afternoon thunderstorm.
Water temperature is around 86*.
Sunrise is at 6:16 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:31 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop. Pray for surf.
