Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, January 26 at 8:15 a.m.
According to the City of Folly Beach we cannot hold the Icebox Open until after February 14, so we will plan to hold the contest during one of the last two weekends of February and the first two weekends of March. Sorry for any inconvenience of confusion this might have caused.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high in north-east wind chop surf.
Winds are north/north-east at 10 to 12 knots. Surf is side-shore and choppy.
We have a low tide at 8:47 a.m., and a high tide will be at 2:46 p.m. The next low tide is at 9:01 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 3.9 ft. at 7 seconds in high angled east/north-east wind waves, and easterly swell at 1.7 ft. at 10 seconds.
We see weak, high angled north-east winds swell today average knee to thigh high at high tide with choppy conditions. We expect a Bermuda high type of system in the Western Atlantic for the weekend with decent on-shore east/south-east fetch as high pressure moves off the mid-Atlantic Coast. This should create some swell this weekend as winds trend moderate from the east/south-east keeping some bump and in the swell. Surf should build Sunday as a cold front approaches. Swell looks to continue for Monday as a low moves from the Gulf of Mexico east across northern Florida and offshore of our waters to start the work week. This should keep some decent surf in the forecast for late Saturday and into early next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will prevail into Saturday, with a frontal system to impact the area Sunday and Sunday night. Cooler high pressure will then return for the first part of next week, before moving into the Atlantic during the middle of the week. A cold front may affect the area next Friday.”
It is 41* this morning with sun and a few clouds. Look for a high of 58* today and sun with some clouds.
Water temperature is up, it’s now 49*. You’ll still need a 4/3, booties, gloves and a hood if you want to surf this weekend.
Sunset is at 5:45 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:17 a.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
