Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, July 12 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout is thigh-to-waist high this morning with a stomach high set. It’s slightly bigger at times, but bigger sets are closing out.
Winds are west/south-west at 10 knots. Surf zone is side-shore and semi-clean.
Surf should probably get better form as the tide comes in some around noon today, but there will be south-west winds crossing things up out there.
Look for winds rotating south-west over the course of the day up to 15 knots this afternoon, with choppy conditions later, but some swell in the water.
We have a low tide at 10:52 a.m., and a high tide at 5:33 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.6 ft at 6 seconds in a short period south wind swell.
Look for choppy surf this afternoon averaging waist to stomach high on the incoming tide. It’s looking like rideable south wind swell should carry through Saturday, with winds going more south-west, adding some chop. Tropical Storm Barry has formed in the north-eastern Gulf of Mexico. It’ll likely keep south to south-west winds – and some wind-swell – in our forecast through Saturday. Surf looks to drop off Sunday into the middle of next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Inland troughing will prevail through the middle of next week with generally above normal temperatures and near to above normal rain chances.”
It’s 83* with sun this morning. We have a 40% chance for storms today, with a high of 89*.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:29 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
