Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, June 29 at 8:15 a.m.
Surf at the Washout is thigh to waist high. There are sets to stomach high, and it looks pretty fun, early.
Best for the high-volume board, but it is rideable this morning, and there is a small ground swell to ride.
Winds are west/south-west at 5 knots and surf is clean.
Look for winds to increase from the south-west at 10 to 15 knots, adding chop to the surf zone this afternoon.
High tide is at 9:16 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:12 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:48 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 2.6 ft. at 9 seconds in a medium period south-easterly swell.
Surf looks average knee to thigh high today with a bigger set to waist high in small south-easterly swell. Surf will be choppier this afternoon and should drop out at the low tide. Seas, swell and surf look very small for the weekend, so we are still waiting for our first real swell of summer, and it’s safe to say that June of 2018 was pretty much a bust for quality surf. It looks like we could get some small, rideable trade-wind swell mid-to-late in the holiday work week starting late on the 4th of July as the Atlantic high pressure move more north of our waters late next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A trough of low pressure will linger over or near the area into the weekend. Weak high pressure will then prevail during the early and middle parts of next week.”
It is 79* with partly cloudy skies. Look for a high of 86* with a 20% chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon.
Water temperature is up to 85*.
