Pier May 18th

choppy

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: knee to waist

Good morning, this is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, May 18th at 8:30 a.m.

Hands Across the Sand will be held today at The Pier from 10 a.m. to noon. It’s an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of offshore drilling here in South Carolina.

The ESA will be holding the Ocean Surf Shop points contest at The Washout on today- Check the SSC ESA Web site for more information.

Surf at the pier is knee to waist high this morning.  There are some lines coming through, but it is disorganized and a bit sideshore.

Winds are SW at 10 to 15 knots, and surf is pretty choppy.

Look for SW winds throughout the day, with gusts up to 20 knots this afternoon.

High tide has just passed. Low tide is at 2:08 p.m., and high tide is again at 8:40 p.m.  The Edisto buoy is reading 3.3 feet at 5 seconds in a short-period south-west wind swell.     High pressure will be in control of our weather, sitting right on top of our marine area for the next few days as is the typical summer weather pattern. Today we see south-west wind waves with poor form averaging knee to waist high. We could see some small, longboard-style trade-wind swell during the early part of the work week. Let’s hope for periods of lesser winds for at least some longboard sessions over the next few days.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will be the dominant weather feature into next week.”

It’s a beautiful morning. It’s 78* with sun.  Look for a hot beach day with sun and passing clouds with a high of 86*.

Water temperature is around 77*.

Sunrise is at 6:18 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:13 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
