Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, Oct. 2st at 8:15 a.m.
Carolina Surf Film Festival is set for October 20-21st at the Brickhouse Kitchen here in Charleston, and if you’re looking to take a road trip, they’ll be at Waterman’s Brewing Company in Wilmington on October 13-14th! Always a great time.
Waves at the washout are thigh to waist high with stomach high sets. It’s drifty with side-shore, north-east wind swell conditions.
Winds are north/north-east at 18 – 25 knots, and surf is side-shore, drifty and with clean faces. Look for north-east winds at 15 to 20 knots this afternoon, keeping the surf choppy and drifty this afternoon.
Low tide is at 11:42 a.m., and high tide is at 6:12 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 6.9 ft. at 7 seconds in steep east/north-east wind swell. Most swell is heading south past our beaches to Florida.
We have high pressure to our north and a low in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. The tight pressure gradient between these two systems keeps high-angled north-east wind-swell/ground swell combo in our forecast through the weekend. Hopefully the wind and swell will rotate more easterly late week and blow some swell into Folly, but for now expect thigh to waist high surf with stomach-to-rib high sets in choppy drifty conditions with moderate to strong north-east winds all week long.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will persist over the region through much of the week, before weakening this weekend. Unsettled conditions are possible late weekend into early next week.”
It is 67* and cloudy this morning. Expect a cooler day with a high of 78* and cloudy skies. There is a chance of showers all day.
Water temperature is around 79* but will continue to drop this week with north-east winds predicted all week long.
Sunset is at 7:01 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:14 a.m.
