Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, July 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at the Washout is knee to thigh high with waist high sets. Occasionally, there is a set to stomach high. It looks kind of fun this morning, but the tide is headed out.
Surf this morning is semi-choppy, with a south-west wind at 5 to 10 knots.
We see south winds at 10 this afternoon, and surf should be semi-choppy today.
Low tide is at 11:15 a.m., and high tide will be at 5:53 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4.6 ft at 6 seconds in short period south-west wind swell and a medium period south swell: 3 ft at 6 seconds.
We see surf build a bit late day as the tide comes in, averaging thigh high to waist high with a bigger set this afternoon in semi-choppy conditions and south winds at 10 knots with a higher gust. South swell will be on the increase through mid-week as low pressure develops over the Southeastern United States and high pressure sits to our east, bringing on-shore winds and south wind swell. There should finally be some size to the surf Tuesday and Wednesday. The swell could fade some on Thursday, but we should still see rideable south wind swell through the end of the work week. Winds trend south/south-west for the period at 10 to 15 knots, and surf should be bumpy and choppy. But at least there will likely be some punchy surf, so get some if you can this week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Low pressure will persist over the southeast United States through Wednesday before dissipating. Atlantic high pressure is expected to build across the region by late week.”
It’s 77* with clouds this morning. Look for a high of 84* with clouds and some sun. We have a 40% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.
Water temperature is 84*.
Sunset is at 8:24 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:26 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
