Pier December 22nd

drifty, blow down

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: stomach
Traffic: none
Parking: plenty
Dangers: chill in the air!

Good morning, this is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, December 22 at 8:30 a.m.

3 more days to shop for the surfers in your life this holiday season!

Waves at the pier this morning are averaging stomach high.  They are side shore and not forming very well with hard side-offshore winds this morning.

Winds are W at 15-20 knots chopping up the surf.

Look for winds to remain from the W today decreasing as the day goes on to 10-15 knots.

Tide is going out. Low tide is at 1:25 p.m. and high tide will be at 7:26 p.m.  The Edisto buoy is reading 7.5 ft. at 7 seconds this morning in a shorter period SW swell combined with W winds.  As that big storm system lifts off the coast today, we’re left with offshore winds.  Unfortunately, the wind is blowing so hard offshore that the faces are being pushed down in high-angled SW swell, making for side shore, slightly blown out surf.  Look for high pressure to build today into tomorrow before we see the typical winter weather pattern of cold front, followed by high pressure throughout the week with light NE winds.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will build over the region today and then weaken Sunday. A weak cold front will pass through the region Sunday night, followed by reinforcing high pressure through the middle of next week. The next frontal system will impact the region late next week.”

It’s 47* and mostly cloudy at the beach.  Look for a high of 55* with sunny skies this afternoon.

Water temperature is 56*.

Sunrise is around 7:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:18 p.m. Days will start getting longer again!

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
