Good morning, this is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, September 11 at 8:00 a.m.
Washout isn’t breaking still, so we’re coming to you from the pier this morning. Non-homeowning residents will not be allowed onto the island after 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, so get it while you can.
Surf at the pier is averaging stomach to chest high in long period ground-swell from Hurricane Florence.
Winds are light from the ENE this morning, and surf is clean.
Look for south winds at 5-10 knots at the beach today, giving slight texture this afternoon.
High tide will be at 9:49 a.m., and low tide will be at 3:51 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:05 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4 ft. at 9 seconds in a long period – and building –easterly ground swell.
We see ground swell building today and into the coming days with moderate south-east winds over long-period easterly ground swell from Hurricane Florence. It looks as though Thursday, we’ll start to really receive large swells and bad weather from Florence with strong north-east winds, though it is still too early to tell the storm’s path and strength. There are many tropical low-pressure systems riding behind Florence, so we’ll update the forecast. Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A stalled front will remain northwest of the region into mid week while Hurricane Florence likely impacts the Southeast U.S. mid to late week. Refer to the latest advisory on Florence issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
It’s 79* and mostly sunny this morning. Look for a high of 86* with a 40% chance of a storm this afternoon.
Water temperature is 85*.
Sunset is at 7:31 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
