Washout isn’t breaking still, so we’re coming to you from the pier this morning. The swell from Florence will likely push some sand around at The Washout next week, so we’ll see how it shakes down in the coming weeks.
Surf at the is averaging waist to stomach high with chest high sets in a long period ground-swell from distant Hurricane Florence. There is still a long wait between sets this morning.
Winds are light from the north-west this morning, and surf is clean.
Look for south winds at 5-10 knots at the beach today which a chance of showers later, keeping ground-swell surf semi-choppy later today.
High tide will be at 9 a.m., and low tide will be at 3 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:17 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3 ft. at 11 seconds in a long period – and building – south-easterly ground swell.
We see ground swell building today and into the heart of the work week with moderate south-east winds over long-period ground easterly swell from the Hurricane Florence. It looks as though Thursday, we’ll start to really receive large swells and bad weather from Florence with strong north-east winds, though it is still too early to tell the storm’s path and strength. It’ll be time to “batten down the hatches later this week.” There are many tropical low-pressure systems riding behind Florence, so we’ll update the forecast.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A frontal system will remain west and northwest of the region early this week. Hurricane Florence is forecast to approach the Southeast coast by Thursday and then linger nearby into the weekend. Refer to the latest advisory on Florence issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
It’s 80* and mostly sunny this morning. Look for a high of 88* with a 40% chance of a storm this afternoon.
Water temperature is 85*.
Sunset is at 7:31 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7 a.m.
