Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for New Year’s Eve Sunday, December 31 at 8:15 a.m.
We will be closing around 2 p.m. today to celebrate New Year’s, and will be closed on New Year’s Day. We hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year, and we look forward to sharing some waves with you in 2018.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high and the surf is semi=choppy in drifty north-east wind swell.
It could possibly push a waist high set as the tide comes in mid-afternoon.
Winds are north at 15 knots, and surf is side-shore, drifty with clean faces.
Look for north/north-east winds today at 10 to 15, and surf should be on/side-shore and choppy most of the day.
Low tide is at 12:11 p.m. and high tide will be at 6:12 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 5.2 ft. in short period north wind waves and 2.3 ft. at 10 seconds in medium period south-east swell.
We see surf average thigh high and building to occ. waist high this afternoon in drifty, semi-choppy north-east wind waves and small south-east swell. This trend continues Monday, with north-winds, side-shore conditions, and thigh high, drifty, north-east winds swell. We see north winds and north-east swell pretty much all week as high pressure sets up over our marine area, and winds and swell trend north/north-east during the first week of 2018.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will move through today followed by arctic high pressure through the rest of the week.”
It is 41* with sun this morning. The wind chill is 26*. Look for sun and passing clouds and a cool beach day with a high of 48*, but not too bad out here today.
Water temperature is down to 52*. That’s darn cold!
Sunset is at 5:21 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:21 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
