Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for New Year’s Day: Monday, January 1 at 9 a.m.
We are closed today, and we wish you a happy New Year from your friends at Ocean Surf Shop.
Surf at the Washout this morning is thigh to waist high with a stomach high set. The surf is drifty and semi-clean with a current running down the beach from north to south.
It could possibly push a rib high set as the tide comes in mid-afternoon with similar conditions.
Winds are north at 20 to 25 knots, and this should continue all day.
Low tide is at 1:07 p.m. and high tide will be at 7:10 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 8.5 ft. at 7 seconds in high angled north-east wind swell. Most of the swell is pushing past the beach.
We see surf average thigh to waist high with a plus set this afternoon in drifty, side-shore north-east wind waves and small south-east swell. This trend continues Tuesday, with north-winds, side-shore conditions, and thigh/waist high, drifty, north-east winds swell. We see north winds and north-east swell pretty much all week as high pressure sets up over our marine area, and winds and swell trend north/north-east during the first week of 2018.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Arctic high pressure will continue across the area through the rest of the week with some moderation in temperatures early next week. A storm system may brush the coast Wednesday, possibly bringing some wintry weather to the area.”
It is 31* with clouds this morning. The wind chill is 21*. Look for clouds today and a high of 36*.
Water temperature is down to 52*. That’s darn cold!
Sunset is at 5:24 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:22 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
