Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, July 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at the Washout is around knee to thigh high with a waist high set. It shows some potential. The swell has a high northerly angle on it.
Winds are north at 15 to 20 knots, surf is side-shore and semi-choppy with a drift down the beach from north-to-south.
Look for north-east winds at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon, and surf should stay fairly choppy later today.

The Edisto buoy is reading 6.2 ft. at 8 seconds in an east/north-east wind waves.
We see high-angled north-east wind chop surf mixed with easterly ground swell today and into Monday as Tropical Depression Three deepens and moves off the North Carolina coast. Surf today average thigh high with a bigger set as the tide comes in later this afternoon. The swell should rotate more east/south-east later in the work week, so we should have some sort of surf to ride this week. It will be welcome after June’s extended flat spell.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will move south of the area today. High pressure will build over the region into the middle of the week while Tropical Depression Three tracks slowly off the North Carolina coast. A broad area of low pressure is expected to develop over the region on Thursday and linger into the weekend.”
Who turned on the air conditioning out here at Folly? It is 74 and cloudy at Folly this morning. Look for a high of 88* and mostly cloudy skies this morning.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunset is at 8:30 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:18 a.m.
