Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, September 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Pier this morning are thigh-to-waist high with stomach sets in high angled easterly ground swell. There is a rare chest high sets in a long-period ground swell. It’s a pretty long wait between ground-swell sets.
There is a better line at the Pier this morning, but the waves are softer. Waves are breaking right on the beach at The Washout but are punchy and kind of faster up there. But the Washout is starting to work again after the beach re-nourishment as the sand moves around.
Winds are north/north-east at 10 knots, and surf zone is side-shore but pretty clean, early. There is a slight drift with the swell and current.
We see increasing north-east winds today blowing 15 knots by afternoon. North-east winds increase 15 to 20 knots by late day. Look for choppy surf this afternoon.
Tide is coming in. High tide will be at 12:02 p.m. and low tide will be at 6:33 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3.9 ft. at 12 seconds in a long-period south-east ground swell with a north-east wind component at the buoy: 1.6 ft. at 5 seconds.
Tropical Storm Leslie is floating around in the Central Atlantic to our east. We see some long period swell building today and building during the work week as Leslie moves south/south-west and becomes a hurricane. We will also see an increasing east/north-east wind swell for the first half of the work-week. East/north-east winds will be chopping up the surf later today through late Tuesday. Winds abate some mid-week, and ground swell surf should clean up some for the middle of the work week. So, we should have some choppy surf to ride for the next several days.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak cold front will move south of the area by tonight, then high pressure will build over the area through next weekend.”
It’s 74* with sun this morning. Expect a nice day with a high of 84* and sun. There is a 20% chance of a thunderstorm.
Water temperature is 83*.
Sunset is at 7:13 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:04 a.m.
