Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, September 6 at 8:15 a.m.
Lots of new fall apparel and shoes are in at the shop, so come by and check it out.
Washout isn’t breaking still, so we’re coming to you from the pier this morning. Granted, the swell from Florence will likely push some sand around at The Washout, so we’ll see how it shakes down in the coming weeks.
Surf at The Pier is thigh to waist high. It could push stomach high on the incoming mid-afternoon, but we do expect easterly winds at 10 to 15 knots today.
Winds are north-east at 5 to 10 knots and surf is bumpy.
We have a low tide at 11:13 a.m., and the next high tide will be at 5:40 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3 ft. at 5 seconds in a south-east swell mixed with a short-period ENE wind swell.
We continue to see on-shore flow from the east into Saturday as a tropical wave approaches our waters late week, pushing in thigh to waist high wind swell with easterly winds keeping things choppy overall. We see ground swell building substantially Sunday and into early next week with moderate south-east winds on long-period ground easterly swell from Hurricane Florence as it approaches the East Coast. Keep an eye on Florence and hope she doesn’t make an East Coast landfall late next week, as well as the many tropical low-pressure systems riding behind Florence.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will remain in place north of the area into early next week while a tropical wave moves into the area from the east. Hurricane Florence could affect the U.S. East Coast toward the middle of next week.”
It’s 78* and partly cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 86* with a 20% chance of a thunderstorm today.
Water temperature is 85*.
Sunset is at 7:37 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:57 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
