Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, May 2 at 8:30 a.m.
Girls, this is a good time to get signed up for the Folly Wahine Classic surf contest to be held in early June. We have entry forms at the shop.
Surf at The Washout has picked up overnight. It is waist to stomach high with chest high sets as seems to be building.
Winds are easterly at 5 to 8 knots, and surf is bumpy, with clean sections.
Look for east winds at 10 knots this afternoon making surf semi-choppy for most of the day.
Tide is going out. Low tide will be at 12:53 p.m. The next high tide will be at 7:13 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 5.6 ft. at 8 seconds in an south-easterly swell.
There is plenty of swell at the buoy, so look for surf to build on the incoming tide this afternoon, with semi-choppy conditions. We should have waves for the next several days. Swell builds Today into Friday as low-pressure system off-shore and a cold front approach our beaches from the west through Friday. This will offer a decent little south-swell for the latter part of the work week. This continues into the weekend as high pressure sets up to our north-west and pushes in spring-time trade-wind swell. Swell should be semi-choppy overall, with moderate south-east winds going south-west by Sunday. Trade-wind swell falls off a bit, but should still be ridable, early into the next work week. So, there is some surf in the forecast. Better get in the water before the doldrums of summer set in.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will weaken today. A weak low-pressure system and a cold front should then bring unsettled weather Friday through the weekend. Drier high pressure will then prevail into the middle of next week.”
It’s 72* with sun this morning. Look for a nice beach day with a high of 79* and sunshine behind passing clouds.
Water temperature is around 72*.
Sunrise is at 6:30 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
