Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, January 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at the Washout this morning are knee to thigh high in a drifty short-period north-east wind swell.
Winds are north/north-east at 15 to 18 knots, and surf is side-shore and choppy with a drift running north-to-south, down the beach.
Look for north-east winds today gusting to 20 knots. We’ll have choppy drifty surf all day
We are coming off a high tide, low tide will be at 2:48 pm. The next high tide is at 8:58 pm.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4.9 feet at 6 seconds in a high-angled, building north-east wind swell.
We have building, high-angled north-east wind swell in the water with drifty conditions today. Surf should average thigh high with a bigger set later this afternoon as the tide comes in. The swell rotates southerly for Wednesday when we should see some choppy waist to chest high south swell. This swell builds on Thursday, cleaning up mid-day Thursday as winds blow strong from the west after another cold front passage. We see leftovers for Friday in the waist high range. So there is some surf in the forecast over the next few days. The weekend looks small, so go surf mid-week if you can.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will extend across the region through Wednesday. A cold front will push offshore early Thursday with high pressure then prevailing through early next week.”
It’s a cold 36* with a wind chill of 29* this morning. It is sunny. Look for a high of 50* today with partly cloudy skies.
Water temperature is around 55*.
Sunrise is around 7:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:42 p.m.
