Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, January 30 at 8:30 a.m.
According to the City of Folly Beach, we cannot hold the Icebox Open until after February 14, so we will plan to hold the contest during one of the last two weekends of February and the first two weekends of March.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high with a waist high set at the morning’s out-going tide. There is a rare bigger set.
Winds are west/north-west at 10 to 15 knots with a higher gust. Surf zone is textured and clean.
Look for strong north-west winds at 20 to 25 knots blowing down the surf as south-east swell fades on the low tide today.
Tide is going out, and low tide will be at 12:50 p.m. High tide will be at 6:56 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 9 seconds in south-east ground swell and an east/north-east wind swell 2.6 ft. at 6 seconds.
A few waist high leftovers for the early birds this morning with off-shore winds blowing down what little swell is left from that fun, three day run of south-east swell. Bring the long-board and you might get a few rides this morning. Surf should get blown down mid-day. Surf looks to remain small for the middle part of the work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Cool high pressure will affect the area through Thursday. A cold front will move through Friday morning, followed by brief high pressure through Saturday. A Gulf low pressure system will move through Sunday into Monday.”
It is 41* this morning with a wind chill of 34*. It is sunny. Look for sun today and a high of 51*.
Water temperature is right around 50*.
Sunset is at 5:50 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:15 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
