Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, July 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout is knee-to-thigh high.
Winds are south/south-west at 15 knots, and surf is choppy and weak.
Look for south winds picking up at 15 to 20 knots this afternoon making the surf zone choppy through the afternoon hours.
Tide is coming in, and high tide will be at 12:59 p.m., low tide will be at 6:58 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.0 ft at 5 seconds in south wind-swell and a small south-east swell.
We see knee-to-thigh high surf this morning building a bit as the tide comes in. Winds go south at 15 to 20 knots this afternoon, and waves look to build a bit late day in choppy, drifty conditions. A cold front moves offshore and stalls overnight. There is a tropical depression near Central Florida that should ride north along this front and elevate seas overnight. We see moderate north/north-east winds clean up south wind swell for Wednesday, which could end up being a small but decent day of summer-time surf. This frontal boundary stays stalled offshore Thursday and Friday, and we see continued small, rideable surf with moderate north-east winds this week. We see north-east winds for the first time this summer after this cold front, and that usually marks the start of home-grown tropical systems.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will approach the area today and then move through
tonight. The front will stall offshore through late week, while high pressure builds inland. High pressure will prevail into early next week.”
It’s 80* with sun and clouds this morning. Look for sun today and a high of 88* with thunderstorm likely today.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:24 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:26 p.m.
