Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, July 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout is knee-to-thigh high.
Winds are west at 5 to 10 knots, and surf zone is clean and weak.
Look for south winds picking up at 15 to 20 knots this afternoon making the surf zone choppy through the afternoon hours.
Tide is coming in, and high tide will be at 12:14 p.m., low tide will be at 6:10 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.0 ft at 5 seconds in south-west wind-swell.
We see knee-to-thigh high surf this morning as the tide comes in. Winds go south at 15 to 20 knots this afternoon, and waves look to build a bit late day in choppy, drifty conditions. Look for building south/south-west wind swell overnight into Tuesday, with choppy conditions as winds trend south-west ahead of a cold front. This cold front moves off-shore and stalls on Tuesday night, and we see moderate north winds clean up south wind swell for Wednesday, which could end up being a decent day of summer-time surf. Surf falls of some for Thursday into Friday. We see north-east winds for the first time this summer after this cold front, and that usually marks the start of tropical systems. There is a tropical low close to home north-west of the Bahamas that could develop some over the next several days, but it’s not looking like a big swell-maker for our beaches. There should be some surf mid-week as this front stalls off-shore.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “The area will remain between an inland trough and Atlantic high pressure today. A cold front will approach Tuesday and move through the area Tuesday night, then stall off the coast through late week. High pressure will return over the weekend.”
It’s 82* with sun this morning. Look for sun today and a high of 89*.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:24 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:26 p.m.
