Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, July 30 at 8:30 a.m.
The Governor’s Cup of Surfing takes place this weekend at the Contest Shack at The Washout. Come get signed up here at the shop by Thursday.
Surf at The Washout this morning is knee to thigh high. There is an occasional waist high set. It’s longboard city out here this morning.
Winds are north/north-west at 5 knots We have clean conditions, early.
Look for winds from the south-east at 5 to 10 knots by late morning, and we see some bump in the surf for afternoon.
We are coming off a high tide at daybreak, and low tide will be at 12:48 p.m. The next high tide will be at 7:16 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 ft. at 8 seconds in a predominant, medium-period east/south-east swell.
Surf is looking pretty small for the remainder of the work week as weak high-pressure is set up over our marine area. A small low embedded in a tropical wave in the Central Caribbean could develop mid-week and has potential to push in some swell Sunday and into next week as it moves north-west, off-shore of our marine area. Trade wind swell looks to follow this system as it departs to the north. There is also a tropical wave off the coast of Africa to keep an eye on for long term. The tropics are heating up, so hopefully we’ll be surfing soon.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Weak high pressure will prevail before a trough of low pressure develops over the Coastal Plain mid week, then persists into early next week.”
It’s 79* with sunny skies this morning. Look for a high of 85* today with sun and a few clouds. There is a 20% chance of a thunderstorm.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:31 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:18 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
