Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
The Folly Beach Wahine is this weekend, so make sure to come and support all the awesome women who surf in the Lowcountry.
Surf at the Washout is running waist to chest high. There is a bigger set to head high, occasionally.
Winds are south at 15-20 knots. Surf is very choppy with current running south-to-north, up the beach.
Winds are expected to remain from the south at 20 knots this afternoon. Surf stays choppy today.
High tide will be at 8:20 a.m., and low tide will be at 2:23 p.m. The next high tide is at 8:55 p.m.
The Edisto buoy reading 6.2 ft. at 8 seconds in short period SSE ground swell/wind swell mix.
We see tropical storm Alberto moving up into the Tennessee Valley through mid-week. With high pressure to our north-east we see on-shore flow continue pushing up choppy wind swell in the waist to chest high range today. Surf drops some and Wednesday as the storm and on-shore flow dissipates. Look for choppy south-west wind swell for the latter half of the work week and into the weekend. It will be rideable, but choppy and weak with waves averaging thigh to waist high.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Deep tropical moisture will remain in place across the region through the middle of the week as the remnants of Alberto tracks northward toward the upper Midwest. A series of disturbances could bring periods of unsettled weather this weekend and into early next week.”
It is 78* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 82* with partly cloudy skies and a 20% chance of rain.
Water temperature is now up to around 79*.
Sunset is at 8:20 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:12 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
