Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, October 2 at 8:15 a.m.
We have a large selection of 1 mm and 2 mm neoprene jackets here at the shop. Come pick one up because it’s getting a bit chilly for these early morning sessions, and the waves should be good this week.
Waves at The Pier this morning are thigh to waist high with a stomach high set. It’s closing out at the low tide, but should get better form as the tide moves in later this morning.
Winds are east/north-east at 10 knots, and the surf zone is side-shore and choppy with continued drift down the beach.
We see increasing east winds today at 10 to 15 knots by this afternoon, and surf should be choppy later today.
Tide just started coming in. High tide will be at 2:08 p.m. and low tide will be at 8:39 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4.3 ft. at 7 seconds in a mix of medium period east/south-east ground swell and shorter period east/south-east wind swell.
Tropical Storm Leslie is floating around in the Central Atlantic to our east. We see some long period swell building today and building during the work week as Leslie moves WSW at 5 mph, before slowly moving north later in the week. Local wind should calm down for the second half of the work week and ground swell surf should continue to fill in at a better angle. We should have some semi-choppy surf to ride for the next several days. There is also a low-pressure system in the south-west Caribbean that bears watching for development later this week as it moves north.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will extend across the region through early next week.”
It’s 74* with sun this morning. Expect a nice day with a high of 84* and sun.
Water temperature is 82*.
Sunset is at 7:02 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:14 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
