Tues., Aug. 15
Clean early, chop later.
Good Morning. This is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Tuesday, August 15 at 8 a.m.
Waves at The Washout are waist to stomach high with an occasional bigger set.
Winds are west at 5 knots, surf is clean early this morning. Ground-swell is draining out some at the lower tide this morning, but should get better form as the tide rolls in.
We expect south-west winds at 10 to 15 knots late this afternoon and surf will be semi-choppy late in the day.
We have a low tide at 8:10 a.m., and a high tide will be at 2:33 p.m. The next low tide is at 8:58 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 10 seconds in long period ESE swell.
Surf should be fun for today, averaging waist to stomach high with an occasional bigger set in semi-glassy conditions. Hurricane Gert in the Western Atlantic moves east/north-east of our beaches this morning, and should continue to push in easterly swell for your Tuesday. Tropical swell begins to fade some on Wednesday. We see south-west wind swell for your weekend, and then there are two more tropical disturbances on the forecast map in the Atlantic these could put tropical swell back in our forecast for next week. It’s that magical time of year.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will remain in control as troughing persists across the Mid-Atlantic and inland into late week. A cold front may approach the area this weekend.”
It is 77* with sunny skies this morning. Expect partly cloudy skies today and a high of 91* with a 20% chance of rain.
Sunset is at 8:03 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:43 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
