Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, August 7th at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout this morning is waist-to-stomach high with a chest high set in a punchy south wind swell. There might be a slightly larger set, and it looks pretty fun, especially for the high-volume board.
Winds are light from the south-west this morning, and surf is bumpy but looks super fun. It’s closing out a bit at the morning’s lower tide.
Look for south-west winds at 5 to 10 knots this afternoon with some bump in the surf as the tide comes in early afternoon. Wind goes south at 15 to 20 knots late day, and surf should get fairly choppy late afternoon.
We are coming off a low tide at sunrise, and high tide will be at 2:20 p.m. The next low tide will be at 8:21 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4 ft at 6 seconds in a predominant south/south-west wind swell, with a small south-east medium period swell.
A few chunky waves for this morning as the tide comes in, with mostly clean conditions. We see see reinforcing trade swell fills in today through Thursday as high pressure over the Central Atlantic keeps south winds blowing a trade-wind swell in our direction. This remains rideable but drops off some for Friday. As a trough sets up inland mid-week, expect south-west winds to add some bump and chop to the late week swell in the afternoons, cleaning up a bit on Friday.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak surface trough will prevail inland while high pressure persists across the Atlantic through Friday. A cold front will approach from the north Saturday, then become stationary over or near our area early next week.”
It’s 81* with sunny skies this morning. Look for a high of 88* today with a 20% chance of a thunderstorm.
Water temperature is around 84*.
Sunrise is at 6:37 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:11 p.m.
