Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, August 8 at 7:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout this morning is waist-to-stomach high with a slightly bigger set in a punchy south wind swell. It looks pretty fun, early. As the tide comes in it should pick up.
Winds are from the south-west at 10 knots this morning, and surf is fairly clean and side-shore, with a drift up the beach.
Look for south-west winds at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon, increasing some late day. We see choppy, drifty surf this afternoon.
We have a low tide at 8:36 a.m., and a high tide at 3:19 p.m. The next low tide is at 9:23 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.9 ft at 6 seconds in a predominant south/south-west wind swell, with a south-east medium period swell 2.6 ft. at 9 seconds.
A few chunky waves for this morning as the tide comes in, with mostly clean conditions early. We see continued trade swell fill in today as high pressure over the Central Atlantic keeps south winds blowing swell in our direction. This remains rideable but drops off some for Friday. As size drops, look for surf to clean up Friday morning. Surf looks smaller for the weekend with a few long-board leftovers on Saturday morning and fairly clean conditions.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak surface trough will prevail inland while high pressure persists across the Atlantic through Friday. A cold front will approach from the north Saturday, then become stationary over or near our area early next week.
It’s 81* with sunny skies this morning. Look for a hot day with a high of 95* today with a 40% chance of a thunderstorm.
Water temperature is around 84*.
Sunrise is at 6:38 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:10 p.m.
