Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, January 16 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at the The Washout are ankle to knee high in a long period easterly ground swell.
Winds are north west at 5 knots, and surf is very clean.
Look light south-westerly winds today at 5 to 10 knots.
We have a low tide at 9:20 a.m., and a high tide will be at 3:20 p.m. The next low tide is at 9:29 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3 ft. at 11 seconds in a long period E swell.
We have small surf today – perhaps a thigh-high longboard wave as the tide comes in this afternoon. The rest of the work week looks to have smaller surf. Best hope for some waves might come as our next storm system affects our marine area late Saturday into Sunday, as we see a shot of south wind swell as a strong cold front approaches our beaches. Keep an eye on the wind Sunday afternoon. Depending on the timing of the front, it could clean up sometime Sunday afternoon, depending on when the wind finally comes off-shore after the cold front passage.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Dry high pressure will build from the west and prevail into Thursday. A weak cold front will approach the area Friday, then lift north as a warm front Saturday. A stronger storm system will then impact the area Saturday night and Sunday with much colder temperatures to follow starting Sunday night.”
It’s 47* and sunny with high clouds at the beach this morning. Look for a high of 57* and sun today.
Water temperature has dropped back to 56*.
Sunrise is around 7:23 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:34 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
