Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, May 22 at 8:30 a.m.
The Folly Beach Wahine Classic surf contest is being held on June 1 and 2 at The Washout. Make sure to check out the Share the Stoke Night at Mex1 in West Ashley tonight at 6 p.m.
Surf at The Washout is knee high.
Winds are south/south-west at 10 knots, and surf is weak, bumpy and semi-clean.
Look for east winds increasing throughout the day, with gusts at 15 to 20 knots this afternoon. We see choppy, drifty surf later in the day.
High tide is at 11:08 a.m. and low tide will be at 5:04 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 6 seconds in a mix of short-period south wind swell and south-east swell.
High pressure will be in control of our weather, sitting right on top of our marine area for the next few days as is the typical summer weather pattern. Today we see south-west wind waves turn east and build some this afternoon, with poor form and choppy conditions. Waves should be averaging knee to thigh high with gusty east winds. Surf builds some overnight in an east/south-east swell, and there should be some bumpy surf in the morning as the tide comes in averaging waist-to-stomach high. Look for long-board leftovers on Friday morning before surf gets small again for the holiday weekend.
