Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, January 25 at 8:30 a.m.
According to the City of Folly Beach we cannot hold the Icebox Open until after February 14, so we will plan to hold the contest during one of the last two weekends of February or on the first two weekends of March. Sorry for any inconvenience of confusion this might have caused.
Surf at the Washout this morning is ankle to knee high with choppy, side-shore, drifty conditions.
Winds are north/north-east at 15 to 18 knots. We see winds from the north-east at 10 to 15 knots today with choppy surf in the forecast.
We are coming off a low tide this morning, and high tide will be at 1:38 p.m. The next low tide will be at 7:58 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 5.9 ft. at 6 seconds in very steep, high angled north/north-east wind waves, moving past our beaches.
We see weak, high angled north-east winds swell today average knee to thigh high at high tide with choppy conditions. High pressure moves into our marine area for the rest of the work week, and north-east wind swell should build a bit for Friday. We expect a Bermuda high type of system in the Western Atlantic for the weekend with decent on-shore east/south-east fetch, which should create some swell this weekend as winds trend easterly keeping some bump and chop in the swell. Surf should build Sunday as a cold front approaches, and swell looks to continue for Monday as a low moves east across northern Florida and offshore of our waters to start the work week. This should keep some decent surf in the forecast for late in the weekend into early next week, so that might be our best bet for some surf this week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will prevail into Saturday, with a frontal system to impact the area Sunday and Sunday night. Cooler high pressure will then return for the first part of next week, before moving into the Atlantic during the middle of the week.”
It is 40* this morning with a bunch of sun. We see sun all day with a high of around 54*.
Water temperature is up, it’s now 48*, which is still pretty darn cold.
Sunset is at 5:45 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:17 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
