Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, July 9 at 8 a.m.
Surf at the Washout is around knee to thigh high with a waist high set. It shows some potential. The swell has a high northerly angle on it and is rolling down the beach.
Winds are north/north-east at 15 to 18 knots, surf is side-shore and semi-clean and closing out at the low tide with a drift down the beach from north-to-south.
Look for north winds at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon, and surf should stay side-shore and drifty but overall clean later today.
Low tide will be at 10:51 a.m., and high tide will be at 5:15 p.m. The next low tide is at 11:45 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 5 ft. at 6 seconds in an a combination of high angled, short-period east/north-east wind swell with an east/north-east ground swell component.
We see high-angled north-east wind chop surf mixed with easterly ground swell today and into as Tropical Storm Chris deepens just north of our waters and moves off the North Carolina coast. Surf today average thigh to waist high with a bigger set as the tide comes in later this afternoon. The swell should rotate more east/south-east later in the work week as the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl moves into our swell window. So there is some surf of variable quality pushing into the beach this week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will move south of the area today. High pressure will build over the region into the middle of the week while Tropical Depression Three tracks slowly off the North Carolina coast. A broad area of low pressure is expected to develop over the region on Thursday and linger into the weekend.”
We have beautiful weather, and it’s not quite as humid out here. It is 78 and sunny at Folly this morning. Look for a high of 89* and sun today.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunset is at 8:30 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:18 a.m.
