Waves at the Washout are averaging thigh to waist high in a south wind chop swell. Surf is building, but it’s fairly choppy.
Winds are south at 15 to 20 knots.
Look for south winds to increase at 10 to 20 knots this afternoon, and we see choppy surf all day.
Low tide will be at 11:43 a.m., and high tide will be at 5:44 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 7.2 ft at 6 seconds in a building south wind swell.
A strong storm system impacts our area today into Friday. We should see a significant south wind swell this afternoon on the incoming tide as south wind swell builds into the chest to head high range with strong south winds at the beach creating chop and drift. We see winds trend south-west for Friday and continued storm surf conditions in the chest to head high range. The surf should quickly drop in size and clean-up for Saturday morning after winds become strong westerly for Friday night. Look for small surf on Sunday and into Christmas, before another storm system effects our area late in the holiday work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A strong storm system will impact the area into Friday. High pressure will then return this weekend with drier weather which will then generally persist through early next week before more significant rain chances return once again later next week.”
There is a gale warning at the beach today, and we expect lots of rain. It is 64 and raining this morning. Look for a high of 67* and rain today, with thunderstorms possible.
