Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, December 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Only two more days to shop for the surfers in your life this holiday season. We will close at 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve, so come see us if you need a last minute gift.
Waves at the Washout this morning are ankle to knee high.
Winds are W at 5 knots and surf zone is clean.
Look for winds from the south-west today at 5 to 10 knots, adding bump to the surf zone.
We are coming off a high tide at 7:52 a.m., low tide will be at 2:15 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:17 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 1.6 ft. at 9 seconds in a medium period east/south-east ground-swell.
High pressure dominates our weather today, and there is not much swell in our window. This continues through Christmas Day and into Wednesday. A cold front stalls over our area on Thursday, when a warm front begins to lift north, bringing us a nice south-east wind swell in the chest to head high range with bumpy -to-choppy conditions building Thursday and Friday. This swell lingers into our weekend. So it should be a good end-of 2018 for surf. Wax up and get your errands done early.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure across the area today will give way to a weak cold front that moves through tonight. High pressure will then prevail through the middle of the week. A cold front will stall over or close to the region Thursday before lifting north as a warm front by Friday. Another cold front will linger nearby next weekend.”
It’s nice at the beach this morning. It’s 44* with bright sunshine. Look for a high of 60* and sun all day.
Water temperature is 56*.
Sunrise is around 7:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:18 p.m.
