Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, July 11 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at The Washout is thigh-to-waist high. There is a stomach high set.
Winds are west at 5 knots, and surf is fairly clean, but the bigger waves are closing out at low tide. It’ll probably get better as the tide comes in some around noon today.
Look for winds rotating south over the course of the day up to 15 knots this afternoon, with choppy conditions later, but some swell in the water. Surf could clean up in a thunderstorm.
We have a low tide at 10:44 a.m., and a high tide at 4:38 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 ft at 7 seconds in a combination short period south wind swell and a medium period south-east swell.
Look for choppy surf this afternoon averaging waist to stomach high. Still some fun surf in the water. It’s looking like rideable south wind swell should carry through most of the work week, with winds going more south-west, adding some chop. There is a disturbance in the north-eastern Gulf of Mexico that will likely be a tropical storm by the end of the week. It’ll likely keep south to south-west winds – and some wind-swell – in our forecast for the rest of this week. Surf looks smaller for the weekend.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A weak front will approach the northern area on Saturday, then move back north and dissipate Sunday. Atlantic high pressure is then expected to prevail for much of next week.”
It’s 80* with showers and clouds this morning. We have a 40% chance for storms today, with a high of 87*.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:19 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:29 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop. Pray for surf.
