Good morning, this is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, July 20 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at the Washout is knee to thigh high. There is an occasional larger set. It is closing out at the morning’s low tide, but could get better with a little more size as the tide pulls in mid-morning.
Winds are N at 5 knots, and surf is choppy and fairly disorganized.
Expect winds mostly from the S today, increasing to 10 knots this afternoon. Winds could be variable as thunderstorms linger over the area most of the day and into the evening.
The first low tide is coming up at 8:40 am followed by high tide at 3:19 pm. The next low tide will be at 9:20 pm.
The Edisto buoy is calling 3.3 ft at 4 seconds in short period S/SE wind swell.
A front is lingering off the coast today to the E and is expected to pass to the NE tonight. Behind it, a warm front will move in over the weekend followed by high pressure from the W early next week. All that to say, we likely won’t have much true swell other than choppy wind swell brought in by these various fronts. Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A front across the area will gradually lift north through tonight as low pressure moves up the coast. A trough of low pressure will persist into the middle of next week before Atlantic high pressure starts to rebuild late next week.”
It is 74* and wet with thunderstorms in the area right now. Look for a high of 81* with rain and thunderstorms on-and-off all day.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunset is at 8:25 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:24 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
