Good morning, this is Bates and Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, October 19 at 8:30 a.m.
We have a ton of spring-suits and neoprene jackets at the shop in all shapes, sizes and thicknesses for men, women and kids. Come pick one since the temp has dropped this week, and this trend should continue next week.
Waves at the pier this morning are averaging knee-to-thigh high. There is a rare waist high set. Looks OK for the log or the fun-board, but no-one is out this morning, and it’s not THAT cold.
Winds are north at 10 to 12 knots, and surf is side-shore but fairly clean.
Look for north-east winds at 10 to 15 knots today, becoming east by afternoon. This should add some chop to the surf zone today.
Low tide is at 10:24 a.m., high tide will be at 4:56 p.m. The day’s next low tide is at 11:02 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4.3 feet at 6 seconds in a short period east/north-east wind swell and a small south-easts ground swell 1.6 ft. at 10 seconds.
We see this north-east wind swell rotate more on-shore for Saturday, and this could push up some ride-able – if not perfect – wind-swell surf for your Saturday in the waist-to-stomach high range. This swell will be blown down after a cold front passage on Saturday night, when temperatures will drop and north-west winds blow the surf flat for Sunday. High angled north-east wind swell should start to fill in for the work week, but it will have a high angle on it, so you might be well-served to head south to Fla.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure centered north of the region will shift offshore through tonight. A cold front will move through the area Saturday night, before high pressure prevails into the middle of next week. Low pressure could approach the Southeast next weekend.”
It’s a cool 60* this morning. We look for a high of 76* and a nice beach day, with some showers expected late day.
Water temperature is now 78* after the cooler weather we had over the weekend.
Sunset is at 6:41 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:27 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
