Good morning, this is Bates and Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, October 20 at 8:30 a.m.
Don’t forget, Follypalooza takes place at the beach today. Center Street is closed today, so come join the party or avoid the traffic, whichever suits your mood.
Waves at the pier this morning are averaging knee-to-thigh high. There is a waist high set occasionally. Bring the log or the funboard if you want to surf this morning.
Winds are west/south-west at 10 to 12 knots, and surf is side-shore with texture, but there are some clean set waves.
Look for west winds at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon as a cold front approaches our beaches. Surf should be side-shore, but fairly clean, all day.
Tide is going out, and low tide is at 11:16 a.m., and high tide will be at 5:43 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3 ft. at 9 seconds in medium-period south-east swell, with a south-west wind swell, 2 ft at 3 seconds.
There should be a few thigh to waist high waves today with westerly winds giving surf zone side-shore texture and some bump. Winds go hard off-shore after a strong cold-front passage for Sunday, blowing down the surf, and chilling the temperatures. This trend looks to be about the same for early in the work week, before we see fresh north-east wind swell fill in the mid-to-late part of the work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will approach from the west today and move through the area early tonight. High pressure will then prevail into the middle of next week. A low pressure system should approach the Southeast U.S. next weekend.”
It’s a cool 73 and partly cloudy this morning. Look for a warm day, with a high of 84* and a 40% chance of a thunderstorm.
Water temperature is now 78* after the cooler weather we had over the weekend.
Sunset is at 6:41 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:27 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
