Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, May 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at the Washout is running waist to chest high with head high sets.
Winds are very light from the east, and surf is bumpy, but fairly clean. It is closing out at the lower tide, but should get better form late morning as the tide comes in some.
We expect south-east winds at 10 knots today, and surf should remain semi-choppy and bumpy, but not too bad.
Tide is coming in, high tide will be at 2:02 pm. The next low tide will be at 7:55 p.m.
The Edisto buoy reading 5 ft. at 9 seconds in medium period south-easterly swell.
There is plenty of swell at the buoy from the south-east this morning, and we should have some fun, rideable waves in the water today with semi-choppy conditions. We have moderate on-shore flow through mid-week, and waves should remain small but rideable for the next three days. Tropical weather models are also showing a low moving into the eastern GOMEX off of the Yucatan Peninsula for your Memorial Day Weekend bringing more south wind swell late in the weekend. Conditions won’t always be perfect this week, with south/south-westerly winds over the next several days. But there is some decent surf of varying quality in the forecast for the next three days or so. Get in the water before the doldrums of summer set in.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “The region will remain between Atlantic high pressure and broad low pressure to the west. This pattern should support south winds through most of the week, yielding warm and moist conditions.
It is cloudy this morning with light rain showers. It’s 74*. Look for clouds today with 40% chance of a shower. High today is expected to be 80*.
Water temperature is now up to around 79*.
Sunset is at 8:16 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:15 a.m.
