Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, May 20 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at the Washout is running waist to chest high with head high sets.
Winds are south at 10 knots, and surf is bumpy and semi-choppy. It is closing out at the morning’s low tide, but should get better form as the tide comes in.
We expect south winds at 5 to 10 knots today, and surf should remain semi-choppy and bumpy, but not too bad.
Tide is coming in, and high tide will be at 12:58 pm. The next low tide will be at 6:51 p.m.
The Edisto buoy reading 6.2 ft. at 8 seconds in medium period south-easterly swell.
There is plenty of swell at the buoy from the south-east this morning, and we should have some fun, rideable waves in the water today with semi-choppy conditions. Surf should trend a bit smaller but still plenty rideable to start the work week, and should be cleaner as south winds drop some on Monday. We have moderate on-shore flow through mid-week, and waves should remain small but rideable for the next three days. Tropical weather models are also showing a low moving into the eastern GOMEX off of the Yucatan Peninsula for your Memorial Day Weekend bringing more south wind swell. Conditions won’t always be perfect with south/south-westerly winds over the next several days, but there is some decent surf of varying quality in the forecast for the next three days or so. Get in the water before the doldrums of summer set in.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A tropical air mass will generally remain in place through the week between high pressure offshore and low pressure to the west.”
It is cloudy this morning with light rain showers. It’s 75*. Look for clouds today with a shower possible. High today is expected to be 79*.
Water temperature is now up to around 78*. Shed all that neoprene. We have TONS of rash guards at the shop.
Sunset is at 8:14 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:17 a.m.
