Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, September 9 at 8:30 a.m.
Lots of new fall apparel and shoes are in at the shop, so come by and check it out. Come grab a new board for this week’s swell while you’re here!
Washout isn’t breaking still, so we’re coming to you from the pier this morning. The swell from Florence will likely push some sand around at The Washout next week, so we’ll see how it shakes down in the coming weeks.
Surf at the “Secret Spot” is averaging waist to stomach high with chest high sets in a long period ground-swell from distant Hurricane Florence. There is a long wait between sets, and LOTS of people surfing. Try not to run over your friends (Sorry Tara!).
Winds are light from the west this morning, and surf is clean.
Look for south winds at 5-10 knots at the beach today which a chance of showers later, keeping ground-swell surf semi-choppy later today.
Tide is going out, and low tide will be at 2:06 p.m. The next high tide is at 8:27 pm.
The Edisto buoy is reading 2.6 ft. at 12 seconds in a long period – and building – south-easterly ground swell.
We see ground swell building today and into the work week with moderate south-east winds over long-period ground easterly swell from the Hurricane Florence. It looks as though Thursday, we’ll start to really receive large swells and bad weather from Florence, though it is still too early to tell her path and strength, but it might be time to “batten down the hatches later this week.” There are many tropical low-pressure systems riding behind Florence, so we’ll update the forecast.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “An frontal system will will remain west and northwest of the region into early this week. Tropical Cyclone Florence could potentially affect the U.S. East Coast by the middle or latter part of the week. Refer to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center concerning Florence. Refer to the latest advisory on Florence issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
It’s 80* and partly cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 87* with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms today.
Water temperature is 85*.
Sunset is at 7:37 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:57 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
