Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, October 7 at 8:30 a.m.
We have a large selection of 1 mm and 2 mm neoprene jackets and spring suits here at the shop. Come pick one up because it’s getting a bit chilly for these early morning sessions, and the waves should be good this week and into next.
Waves at The Pier this morning are waist to stomach high with a chest set.
Winds are north/north-east at 5 to 10 knots, and surf is clean.
Winds are expected north-east today at 10 knots, making surf zone a bit choppy.
Tide was high just before sun-rise, low tide is at 12:58 p.m. Look for another high tide at 7:15 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3 ft. at 10 seconds in long-period east/south-east ground swell. There is swell at the buoy, and should be some smaller waves all day.
Tropical Storm Leslie will continue heading back east in the Atlantic today, taking with it the majority of this ground swell we’ve been seeing all week. We should still see a small pulse today as the storm moves east. We see a strong, punchy east/south-east trade-wind swell fill in Monday afternoon and build through the middle of next week as high pressure sets up over Bermuda and sends trade wind swell our way. This will be enhanced by Tropical Depression Fourteen, which moves into the GOMEX during the work week. Look for a Cat 1 hurricane near the Florida Panhandle mid-week, enhancing on-shore wind and rain for our marine area during the second half of the work week. So, we have some short period wind waves on tap this week.
Your NOAA MarinWeather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will prevail into the middle of the week with a tropical cyclone likely to impact the region mid to possibly late week. Refer to the latest advisory on Tropical Depression Fourteen issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
It’s 77* with sun this morning. Expect a hot day with a high of 87* and sun.
Water temperature is 82*.
Sunset is at 6:58 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:16 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
